Revolutionizing Language Learning: The Emerging Role of Artificial Intelligence inForeign Language Education
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the landscape of foreign language education by enabling more personalized, adaptive, and engaging learning experiences. This paper explores the growing integration of AI technologies—including Natural Language Processing (NLP), intelligent tutoring systems, speech recognition, and machine translation—into language learning environments. It investigates how AI tools support learners through real-time feedback, conversational practice, and grammar correction, while also reducing barriers to access. The study draws on existing literature, recent innovations, and educational case studies to highlight the advantages and challenges of AI-powered language studies. Key findings suggest that AI enhances learner autonomy, engagement, and proficiency when used in conjunction with traditional pedagogical approaches. However, issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and overreliance on automation remain critical concerns. The paper concludes with recommendations for educators and policymakers on integrating AI responsibly and effectively into language curricula. By reimagining language education through AI, this research contributes to a more inclusive, efficient, and learner-centered future.
