Abstract

This Paper examines the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, focusing on how it can simplify and enhance the study of classical German literature, particularly works by authors like Friedrich Schiller. AI tools such as interactive chatbots, which imitate/impersonate the style and thought processes of historical writers, and AI-generated adaptations of literary texts can offer new ways to engage students. By simplifying complex works into graspable formats, AI can make literature more interactive, promoting deeper understanding and personal connections with texts. However, any reliance on AI can bring about serious issues. The ease with which one can get summaries and explanations on AI may lead to superficial learning, where students focus more on grades than on critical analysis. The overreliance on AI may dampen the thirst of independent and curious reading which would be very sad for the love of learning. The more students depend on AI the more they become disengaged from the original Text and as a consequence, their analytical and interpretative skills get weaker. To maximize the benefits of AI without compromising intellectual depth, educators must adopt a balanced approach. AI should serve as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for learning. Teachers can integrate AI in ways that encourage creativity and critical reflection, ensuring students actively engage with texts rather than passively consuming AI-generated content. In addition, acquiring media literacy enables students to identify AI’s shortcomings and use it more responsibly, which is very important. This study highlights the need for a thoughtful integration of AI in education. Though AI can offer classical texts in an appealing and easy manner, sophisticated use will ensure that the quality of literary analysis does not suffer, increase students’ technological adaptability and decrease their intellectual apathy.
